About Jeert

Hallo Dear visitor
I am glad to see you here,

My name is Peter Grieten. I am a retired Dutchman born on March 14, 1944, who has been living in Thailand for many years, spending most of my days in front of my laptop.

My passion for watches started in my earliest childhood with my grandfather’s pocket watch. It was a small round thing on a chain that he often looked at. When I sat on his lap, he would hold it against my ear, and I would hear its ticking, which made me happy. However, I didn’t understand how this small device has things moving under its glass and also produced a rhythmic sound.

Years later, I was fascinated by my older brother’s watch. He wore an Eternamatic Kontiki on his wrist, a watch with a beautiful silver-colored robust case.Unfortunately, I didn’t have the money to buy such a new watch.

Later on, I began scouring all the flea markets in and out of the country, looking for all types of mechanical watches. Over the years, I have purchased literally hundreds of watches of all different brands and types.

However, having them repaired became too costly, so I went to an evening school in Amsterdam to take a watchmaker course, which I successfully completed.
I also joined the Dutch Rikketik association, which organizes various clock and watch fairs annually, and signed up for weekly second-hand markets where I sold my watches and related items.

Nowadays, repairing watches is not possible for me due to the cramps I get in my hands when holding watchmaker’s tools for a long time. Fortunately, we now have the internet where plenty of watch materials can be found. I am currently working on my website, jeertwatchshop.com, where I want to describe and offer all brands of watches to fellow enthusiasts.

Have fun browsing!
